Default IBM Virtual I / O Server V2.2 (VIOS)

IBM Virtual I / O Server V2.2 (VIOS)
Developer: IBM | Version: VIOS V2.2 (September 2010) | Platform: IBM RISC (IBM Power) | Language: English | 10.3 GB

System requirements: IBM eServer p5, IBM eServer pSeries, IBM eServer i5, IBM Power Systems

Virtual IO Server (Virtual I / O Server) performs virtualization of resources input and output (disk, tape, Ethernet) for the client partitions, simplifying management and reducing system costs.

The use of virtual I / O Server (Virtual I / O Server, VIO Server), which provides data storage and Ethernet network to a group of logical partitions, allow the best use of hardware resources. Thanks to the virtual server I / O can reduce the number of disk drives and network cards Ethernet, required multiple servers on AIX.

VIOS (Virtual Server IO) is a software product, located in the partition. This software facilitates the sharing of physical resources between input-output client logical partitions within the server. VIOS (Virtual Server IO) provides the target virtual device SCSI, virtual fibre channel, Shared Ethernet Adapter and function sharing PowerVM Active Memory System client logical partitions.
Therefore, the client logical partitions can share the device SCSI, adapters, fibre channel, Ethernet adapters, and increase the amount of memory available to logical partitions using the device swap space. The software product VIOS (Virtual Server IO) requires the full allocation for logical volume use.

VIOS (Virtual Server IO) is part of a hardware component PowerVM Editions.

Application VIOS (Virtual Server IO) facilitates the following functions:
* Sharing of physical resources, logical partition system.
* Creating logical partitions without required additional resources, physical input-output.
* Creating more logical partitions than the number of available input-output connectors or physical devices with the ability for logical partitions to have dedicated input-output, the virtual input-output, or both.
* Maximizing the use of natural resources in the system
* Assisted in the reduction of network storage infrastructure (SAN)
